How to Check SASSA Grant Application Status For Refugees and Asylum Seekers?
To check your SASSA status as an asylum seeker or refugee, follow these steps:
1. Visit the SASSA SRD Web Portal
- Open your web browser and go to the official SASSA SRD website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za
2. Choose “Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders”
- On the homepage, look for the section dedicated to asylum seekers and special permit holders.
- Click on this option to proceed.
3. Enter Your Special Permit ID Number
- Input your Special Permit ID number or File Number provided by the Department of Home Affairs.
- Ensure that you enter the number correctly to avoid errors.
4. Enter Your Phone Number
- Provide the phone number you used during your SASSA grant application.
- Double-check that the number is correct, as you may receive an OTP (One-Time Password) for verification.
5. Check Your Status
- Click on the “Submit” or “Check Status” button.
- Your grant status will be displayed on the screen, indicating whether your application has been Approved, is Pending, or has been Declined.
If your application is approved, the system will show the payment details, including the expected payment date. If declined, you can submit an appeal.
How to Check SASSA Status on WhatsApp
For convenience, SASSA allows asylum seekers and refugees to check their status using WhatsApp. Follow these steps:
1. Save the SASSA WhatsApp Number
- Save the official SASSA WhatsApp number 082 046 8553 in your phone contacts.
2. Send a Message to SASSA
- Open WhatsApp and start a new chat with the saved SASSA number.
- Type the following message:
“Asylum Seeker + Your Special Permit ID Number” - Example: “Asylum Seeker 123456789”
3. Receive Your Status
- After you send the message, SASSA will process your request and reply with the status of your grant application.
- The response will indicate whether your application is approved, pending, or declined.
Can Asylum Seekers Apply for SASSA SRD Grant?
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) provides financial help to people who need support. One of the grants they offer is the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 Grant. Many asylum seekers in South Africa want to know if they can apply for this grant.
Who Can Apply for the SASSA SRD Grant?
The SRD R370 Grant is for people who:

✅ Are between 18 and 59 years old.

Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/ on your phone or computer.
Step 2: Enter Your Details
Provide:
