SASSA Introduces the New “Black Card” for Grant Beneficiaries!
SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) has launched an innovative financial solution for its beneficiaries: the SASSA Black Card, issued by Postbank. This new card is designed to provide enhanced features and benefits for grant recipients, offering an upgrade from the old SASSA debit cards.
If you’re a SASSA beneficiary, you now have the opportunity to apply for the Black Card. Those currently using the old SASSA debit cards can seamlessly migrate to this new card.
What is the Black SASSA Card?
The black SASSA card is a newly launched debit card from the Postbank for SASSA clients. The card is an upgrade from the previous and conventional SASSA cards. It provides more control over your money and has better security features.
How to Apply for a New SASSA Black Card Online?
First, you need to understand that there is no way to apply for this card online yet. However, you need to visit the SASSA office to start the application procedure.
Documents Required
- Old SASSA card
- Your ID ( Green barcoded ID, smart card ID, special permit)
- Active phone number
- Email address
Application Form Fulfilment
Once your documents are ready, you can proceed to the application form fulfillment steps.
- Visit the nearest SASSA office in your region.
- Go to the SASSA card department.
- Ask for the application for a Black Card and proceed with the application form.
- Fill out the form with your details and attach all the required documents.
- Return the old SASSA card to the officials.
- Now submit the application.
- Get the reference number from the SASSA officials and get back home.
- Now wait for the black card delivery to your home and then you can use it.
Card Activation
You need to activate this card once you receive it via post. Here is the way to do it:
- Unpack Your Card: Open the envelope and carefully remove the card.
- Sign the Card: Sign your name on the signature panel located on the back of the card.
- Visit a Postbank ATM: Take your card to the nearest Postbank ATM.
- Insert the Card: Insert your non-active SASSA Black Card into the ATM.
- Set Your PIN: The ATM will prompt you to create a 4-digit PIN for your card. Enter your desired PIN and confirm it by re-entering the same PIN.
- Verification and Activation: The ATM will verify your details. Once verified, your card will be activated immediately.
- Ready to Use: You can now use your activated SASSA Black Card to receive the SRD R370 grant payments and other SASSA grants.
Who Is Eligible for the Black Card?

Existing SASSA Beneficiaries:
All South African citizens currently receiving SASSA payments are eligible for the Black Card.
Cash Method Users:

Those still using the old SASSA debit cards can migrate to the new Black Card.
